It is time that some Vincentians remove themselves from the notion that the New Democratic Party (NDP) would not make it without the party leader the Hon. Arhnim Eustace.
Opposition elected MP the Hon. St. Clair Leacock yesterday morning said that there are other members of the New Democratic Party who are able to lead and who has ideas and skills that compliment those of Mr. Eustace.
Leacock made mention of the likes of elected members of parliament such as the Hon Daniel Cummings, Linton Lewis, Anesia Baptiste and himself. Leacock added if leadership is being narrowed down to the opposition leader only then the people will be running a risk.
He said after Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Julian Francis and to some extent Saboto Caesar; there is no one else in the ULP who can speak on macro- economic issues. This is not the case with the NDP Leacock said.
Leacock also mentioned that the New Democratic Party is the only party in St. Vincent and the Grenadines that has survived its founding leader. However, Leacock endorsed Arnhim Eustace’s leadership of the NDP, stating that he is the best person to run the party at this time.

It is time people like Mr Leacock stop talking with water in their mouth. How can you on one hand tell Vincentians to rid themselves of such notion that being, the NDP cannot go on without Mr Eustace;but yet in the same breath validates such notion by stating that said leader is the best person at this time to lead NDP? Really Mr Leacock? Brutus eventually showed his true colors, what are you waiting for? A snap election?
Here is the hard truth…I recognized this truth for a while now but was reluctant to embrace it.It is time for Mr Eustace to go. Mr Eustace is a gentleman and a bureaucrat par excellence, but an awful politician which compromises is overall leadership ability. By all political analysis, the NDP should have won the last election handily but with some poorly choice strategy(no cohesive message, questionable candidates)and fool-hardy tactics(selling of NCB,video of alleged rape victim living Canada!A hastily arranged last minute press conference); the NDP conspire to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.Any general who lost three wars not withstanding against the same opponent; ought to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
Mr Eustace should have been politically court marshaled on the spot for this defeat.
The hierarchy of the NDP is still in a state of denial and hence a state of confusion stemming from the last electoral defeat. It’s time the NDP get their house in order and stop spinning top in mud…and here is another hard truth, the only person at the moment to lead the NDP is and dare I say it..is Brutus aka Mr Leacock! Mr Leacock is the only person who has the POLITICAL ACUMEN TO BEAT GONSALVES IN A POLITICAL DOGFIGHT.Unless some fresh face political astute candidate bolt from left field;there is no one else in the NDP hierarchy to take over the helm. Dr Lewis, Mrs Baptiste and Mr Cummings? These folks are either too green, too unpopular or simply lack gravitas. Mr Friday, for some reason has not shown any political acumen or ambition to fight for the soul of the NDP. He is simply too reserved for political ascendancy.Well at least in my humble opinion.
Mr Leacock, here is some unsolicited advice; stop trying to be the “good son” while hiding the axe behind your back. Its time to bring the axe out. Its time you stake a claim for the heart and soul of the NDP. Let Mr Eustace know in no uncertain terms that his position is indeed a tenuous one. This is not personal but simply the survival of the NDP. A snap election and the NDP is doom in its present state.
Mr Leacock, if you truly believe that the NDP can make it without Mr Eustace at the helm..then here is another piece of advice, this time from the great Machiavelli…”I’m not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it.”
