There is a new website offering resources online for parents children and teachers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This was revealed to the parliament by Hon. Senator Vynnette Frederick Shadow Minister of Culture, Science, Telecommunications and Information and Technology (IT) during her presentation at the 2012 Budget Debate on Thrusday. Frederick introduced the members of parliament to the website www.vincyclassroom.com which she described as an initiative of the NDP IT DESK which she coordinates, which she saw as being much needed to help particularly children with their laptops and their parents to access information and sites that can assist them to make the most out of the technology.
Senator Frederick chided the government for its lethargic approach to technology and offered the site as a necessary initiative to empower children to make the most of the laptops which they have received from the government since mid 2011. Frederick was vociferous in her support of the One laptop per student initiative, which she pointed out as having been pioneered by the NDP as part of its IT and Education agenda.
The site boasts past papers for common entrance which can be downloaded and printed, culturally relevant links and videos along with fun and interesting games and ideas for children to learn and reinforce the fundamentals. All persons interested in contributing content to the site are invited to contact the webmaster at firstname.lastname@example.org
A formal launch of the site is expected soon
