The opposition parliamentary representative for the Northern Grenadines Godwin Friday in parliament yesterday morning said, such a tax increase is too much for the people of this country right now.

It has been said that a 15 percent property tax increase on the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is absolute wickedness. The opposition parliamentary representative for the Northern Grenadines Godwin Friday in parliament yesterday morning said, such a tax increase is too much for the people of this country right now.

Friday says as it stands most Vincentians are unable or are struggling to pay their property taxes and a tax on the people at this time is unconscionable, especially given that Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is asking for a vehicle for 80,000 EC dollars.

Friday said if persons can’t afford to pay their property tax now would they be able to, following the 15 percent increase. He is asking whether or not Vincentians will see a fifty percent increase in property tax next year.
